Barns are an important part of our region’s heritage. Over the past several years, we have worked with clients throughout Southern Ontario to restore their barns and out-buildings. For some, their usage continues to be agricultural, but many more of our clients are re-imagining these spaces as event spaces, breweries & wineries.
Most recently, we have shifted our focus away from small repairs to larger, full building restorations or re-builds. See below for some of our recent projects.
Event Space, Prince Edward County

This majestic space was once a massive and under-utilized barn; both in disrepair and too large for this client’s needs. During their initial meeting, Mike observed that this large barn was originally a much smaller structure (made obvious to him by the Pentagon ridge beam) and made a plan to restore the barn to something resembling its original structure. We would preserve the building’s history while creating a more suitable space for many more generations to enjoy.
Our crew dismantled the barn, repaired the frame where necessary, and resurrected the structure. We worked with other local craftspeople to complete the building with reclaimed wood windows and doors. This carefully restored space is now utilized as a community gathering space, art gallery, event space and concert venue.
The story of this unique structure has been captured beautifully by Watershed Magazine & Photographer Ian Brown.

100 Acre Brewery, Peterborough, ON

Once an Orange Hall, this heritage building was moved to the site in the 1950s. Our restoration included repairing the existing structure, removing the roof & installing new timber frame trusses.
An addition was also created using re-sized, reclaimed timbers from a local barn. Be sure to stop in for a sample of their delicious creations!
Wilda Event Space, Prince Edward County, ON

This event space is truly a work of art. Our team completed all aspects of this project, from demolition to creating reclaimed wooden windows. The original timber frame was salvaged and the building re-created to become an inviting space for community gatherings.
Farmhill Weddings, Peterborough, ON
How exciting is was to partner with Whippletree Timber Framing to cut and raise the frame for this beautiful wedding venue overlooking the farming community of Peterborough County. This new timber frame building showcases beautiful pine and fir timbers and precise joinery to allow for long, unsupported beam spans.

Century Barn Restoration, Wolfe Island, ON
This was a true engineering feat! This barn had a crumbling foundation and several rotten timbers. Throughout this massive Barn Restoration our team repaired and replaced large structural components, including the foundation and masonry walls. In order to achieve this while maintaining the integrity of the structure, a massive, temporary support structure was created.
We also replaced siding and created an awning on the lower level to protect the new windows and doors. This project showcases our ability to safely reconstruct a building from the inside out & turn a barn into a work of art.
Horse Barn Overhaul, Trenton, ON

Major structural work, including new foundation, sill plates and floor joists transformed this crumbling structure into a safe haven for our client’s horses and farm implements. Replacement of the building’s siding gave the barn a finished look. Check out the pictures below of our processes including using shoring to stabilize the structure in order to safely complete our repairs.
Blue Wheelbarrow Farm, Prince Edward County, ON

As many barns throughout Ontario, this timber frame barn required structural work to keep it standing and functional. After new post and beam installation, this barn is ready to support another 150 years of farming!
Timber Frame Outbuilding, Prince Edward County, ON

Cullen Central Park Log Cabin, Whitby, ON
What a pleasure it was to create a porch to protect this historic build at what was formerly Cullen Gardens.
This cabin was built in 1830 near Orangeville, ON and relocated by the Cullen Family in 1981 to serves the Cullen Gardens Old-Fashioned Country Store.
